NSLS-II Damping Wiggler XAS Station: Second Workshop Announcement
This message was sent to the members of the NSLS XAS community on 11 December, 2007 using mailing lists provided by the NSLS User Office and NSLS-II development office:
Hello, It is our pleasure to invite you to the Workshop on X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy at NSLS-II, which will take place on January 16th, 2008. At this workshop we will develop the scientific and technical case for a beam line at NSLS-II designed to supply an exceptionally bright source of hard x-rays for x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) experiments over a very broad energy range. A Beamline Advisory Team (BAT) will form as a result of the discussions at this workshop and this BAT will submit a Letter of Interest to work with NSLS-II on the design, construction and commissioning of this beamline. We look forward to lively discussions about this valuable resource that NSLS-II will provide to our community and we hope that many of you will be able to participate and to lend your expertise and experience to this process. The workshop website is at http://www.bnl.gov/xasworkshop/ If you wish to attend, you must register by following the link at the top of the workshop homepage. There is no registration fee, but we need an accurate head count. Foreign nationals who do not have an active appointment at Brookhaven will need to register before December 16th. For everyone else, the registration deadline is January 14th. We have an exciting speaker list representing the broad range of scientific disciplines which use XAS: Catalysis: Sven Schroeder (University of Manchester) Condensed matter science: Vincent Harris (Northeastern University) Environmental science: Donald Sparks (University of Delaware) Geological and high pressure science: Wendy Mao (Stanford University) Life science: Ingrid Pickering (University of Saskatchewan) There will also be presentation on the current design of the damping wiggler XAS beamline and ample time for discussion of the scientific and technical requirements of the beamline. For more information, including a presentation of the current beamline design, see http://xafs.org/NSLSII/DampingWigglerXasStation/. We look forward to seeing you at the workshop, Regards, The XAS Workshop Organizing Committee Bruce Ravel Paul Northrup Lydia Rogers Privacy statement: This mailing list was compiled from the list of people who self-identified as XAS users with the NSLS User Office and the list of attendees at the XAS breakout session of the July 2007 NSLS-II workshop.
